  1. Hi Sharpening Character Team,

An interesting story for you: I usually sign off an email to a stranger (such as a seller on Craigslist or an agent on an internet help chat, such as Best Buy) with the words, “God bless you as you seek Him!” This week, a lady responded, “How sweet! It sounds like you are born again! I am, too!” This led to a email conversation over the last few days that included me mentioning my husband’s fatal car accident. She said the name sounded familiar. That coupled with the name of the last town we lived in, led her to ask if he lived there in the seventies. He did, but as a teenager, so I suggested maybe she knew his father. I sent her a photo of his parents. She said they were one of the couples that mentored her when she was first saved as a college student! It seemed to me that she was encouraged that her mentor’s family had gone on to serve Jesus. And she HAD heard of the accident and said that a Toastmaster club leader, who was not saved, was very impressed that a Christian had enough faith to pray, “Thy will be done” as was reported by a radio talk show host who had been one of the first responders. I told her that I wish he would have seen that it is Jesus that produces that kind of faith! It is the faith OF Christ. Not just his example in Gethsemane, but Gal. 2:16 and Phil. 3:9! I just thought it was neat that God showed me how my signature comment affected one person. Perhaps it affects others, too! We must tell ourselves not to be embarrassed to write such things to total strangers. It sure can’t hurt anything and it may stick in their minds for years, as my prayer on Dec. 14, 2010 did!
