For the month of April, we’re going to be focusing on Easter and preparing our hearts to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus—the One who was called “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). As we consider the sacrifice He made for us, we’d like to look deeply at our own hearts and praise God for His grace and mercy!
In keeping with the idea of sacrifice, here’s this month’s challenge: make a physical sacrifice each week by fasting in a certain area such as food, entertainment, or social media to spend time thanking God for his sacrifice.
Here’s a few examples:
- Fasting from desserts, snacks, or some other “non-essential” food
- Taking a break from social media
- Cutting out movies or other entertainment
The goal for this month is to experience physical sacrifice and to exercise self-control through the Biblical discipline of fasting. As we head throughout the month, ask God to open your eyes to the sin in your heart and your need for Him. Take time to think about what Jesus did two thousand years ago in giving His perfect, sinless life to pay a debt we could not pay and praise God for His amazing gift of mercy, grace, and salvation!
